MP Eric Melillo says Conservatives pledge inquiry into government’s handling of COVID-19
KENORA, ONTARIO ~~~~~~ April 6, 2021 (LSN) Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole is pledging to call an inquiry into the Liberal government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When the pandemic is over, we need answers, we need to know what worked and what didn’t,” the Conservative Leader stated today. “We need complete transparency and accountability.”
O’Toole called the Liberals’ botched vaccine procurement “a national disgrace,” noting Prime Minister Trudeau’s misguided decision to partner with China in developing a vaccine. Canada’s multimillion-dollar collaboration with CanSino collapsed when the Communist Chinese regime blocked shipments of the vaccine to Canada.
O’Toole says it is necessary to learn from past mistakes if we want to honour the lives lost and prevent future tragedies. “A Conservative government will call a public inquiry to examine every aspect of the government’s pandemic response. We also call on the government to appoint a special monitor from the Office of the Auditor General to track the pandemic response in real time to ensure that valuable ‘lessons learned’ are captured for future emergency readiness,” he stated.
Kenora riding MP Eric Melillo agrees that an inquiry is needed.
“The Trudeau government’s failure to procure vaccines has had devastating impacts on lives and livelihoods,” Melillo said. “Once this crisis is over, we need to get to the bottom of how this happened so we can ensure Canada is never left as unprepared as we were when Covid hit last year.”
