Babies born from March to July

Babies born from March to July

may have missed their infant hearing screens

DRYDEN, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~  October 14, 2020 (LSN)  Babies who were born from March to July this year may have missed their hearing screen. Due to COVID-19, infant hearing screens that normally occurred in hospitals before discharge were halted from March to July. Services have resumed and any new babies will receive their infant hearing screen.  Kenora, Fort Frances, Atikokan, Rainy River Ontario

A hearing screen is important to identify any babies who have hearing problems. Early identification is key to help babies get the help that they need. Hearing problems that are not treated can negatively impact speech and language development and learning. Children who are not identified early with hearing problems can also develop social, emotional, and behavioural challenges if they do not receive support.

Any parents who think their baby may have missed their infant hearing screen should call NWHU at 1-877-553-7122 for more information.

A big Thank You to all our supporters across Northern Ontario from Kenora in the West to North Bay in the East and south into North Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan
