OTTAWA, THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~   August 1, 2022 (LSNews)  The Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Terry Fox Day in Manitoba:

There are few people who have moved the hearts of their fellow Canadians as deeply as Terry Fox. At the young age of 21, Terry embarked on the Marathon of Hope that immortalized his heroic battle against cancer and his efforts to help find a cure.

“Terry’s personal journey inspired millions of Canadians and raised over $1.7 million for cancer research. Today, Terry’s unshakeable conviction that we will one day find a cure for cancer lives on through the Terry Fox Foundation and races held annually across our country in his name. Through these events, over $850 million has been raised for cancer research.

“Terry’s story continues to inspire people around the world. His courage will always serve as a beacon of hope and endurance, especially for the thousands of Canadians whose lives have been disrupted by cancer. Today, Canadians remember Terry with a sense of enduring gratitude for the way that he brought us together as a country and united us through his relentless optimism.

“As we celebrate Terry Fox Day and participate in local charity runs in his honour, I urge all Canadians to take time to reflect on the legacy of Terry Fox – a true Canadian hero.”
