SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO - November 11, 2019  (LSN) More than 100 company owners and professionals from the Twin Saults gathered this week for Business Beyond Borders. The learning and networking forum was designed to help firms generate cross-border opportunities.

The event was facilitated by the Economic Development Corporations of Sault Ontario and Sault Michigan, Eastern Upper Peninsula Regional Planning & Development Commission, and Chippewa County EDC. These agencies partnered to provide a unique educational forum for the businesses and entrepreneurs they serve.

“We are very pleased with the turnout and interest in our first annual Business Beyond Borders event,” said Nevin Buconjic, Manager of Trade & Investment for the Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario) Economic Development Corporation. “We look forward to growing this forum over the years to come, and we’re excited to host next year’s event in our community.”

Business Beyond Borders 2019 took place on November 6 at Kewadin Convention Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The full-day event featured economic updates on the Twin Saults, keynote presentations from the Council of the Great Lakes Region and BMO, and a fireside chat with officials from the Canadian Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs & Border Protection.

As well, representatives from several local firms, including Algoma Steel, Norpro, Main Filter, took part in a manufacturers’ roundtable discussion. Attendees were also provided with an update on the $1-billion Soo Locks construction project.

Meanwhile, although it’s nearly a year away, organizers are now planning for the 2020 forum in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. If you would like to learn more, or would like to participate next year as a speaker or sponsor, please contact Nevin Buconjic at n.buconjic@ssmedc.ca or 705-759-5928.
