FORT WILLIAM HISTORICAL PARK REOPENING TO THE PUBLIC JUNE 30

Open Wednesday through Sunday

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~~   June 24, 2021  (LSN)   Northwestern Ontario's tourism anchor, Fort William Historical Park (FWHP), is pleased to announce it will be reopening to the public on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

Following the announcement from the Government of Ontario that the province will be entering Step 1 of its reopening plan on June 14, which allows historical sites and other similar attractions to open outdoors, FWHP staff have been able to return to the site to begin preparing FWHP to again receive visitors, including continuing to adapt to the new health and safety realties presented by COVID-19. The FWHP site has been closed to the public since December 2020 in response to public health concerns surrounding COVID-19.

“Our entire team is looking forward to welcoming back visitors beginning Wednesday, June 30 to enjoy the unique experiences that Fort William Historical Park is able to offer at this time,” states Acting General Manager, Patrick Morash. “Over the past few weeks, our staff have been busy preparing the site including de-winterizing all the exhibits and buildings, grounds maintenance, verifying and updating health and safety measures, and adjusting the site, programs and services to help ensure the health and safety of our staff and visitors. The tourism industry has been one of the hardest hit areas during the pandemic, and as the province continues to safely reopen, we look forward to continuing our role to support Northern Ontario’s tourism industry on the road to recovery.”

FWHP remains committed to the health and safety of our community, visitors, employees, and animals during these unprecedented times. FWHP is working to implement a phased approach to reopening which is aligned with public health measures and recommendations, and continues to implement health and safety measures to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. These include measures such as physical distancing, reduced visitor capacity, hand sanitizing stations, and increased frequency of cleaning high traffic areas such as bathrooms, handrails and door handles.

As part of its phased reopening plan, FWHP will be open to the public 10:00am-5:00pm Wednesday through Sunday, and will again be offering admission for $5.00 per person and youth ages 12 and under will be free. Visitors will be able explore Fort William’s beautiful outdoor setting and use their smart phones and tablets to access our high-definition, live action videos available in English, French and Oji-Cree via our QR code signage located across the historic site
