Cook County Stay At Home Order

Cook County Stay At Home Order

COVID-19 Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen

COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA  ~  March 26, 2020  (LSN)  I have been getting many questions about this order since the Governor spoke it yesterday and I wanted to clarify what it looks like from the law enforcement side. People can still travel, as the order defines:

Minnesotans may leave their residences only to perform any of the following activities, and while doing so, they should practice social distancing:

  • Health and safety activities, such as obtaining emergency services or medical supplies
  • Outdoor activities, such as walking, hiking, running, biking, hunting, or fishing
  • Necessary Supplies and Services, such as getting groceries, gasoline, or carry-out
  • Essential and interstate travel, such as returning to a home from outside this state
  • Care of others, such as caring for a family member, friend, or pet in another household
  • Displacement, such as moving between emergency shelters if you are without a home
  • Relocation to ensure safety, such as relocating to a different location if your home has been unsafe due to domestic violence, sanitation, or essential operations reasons

Tribal activities and lands, such as activities by members within the boundaries of their tribal reservation

People can still travel to and from work if they are required to be at their place of employment. The order is designed to keep people from having unnecessary gatherings and help slow the spread of the virus. Deputies will not actively patrol for non-compliance and will not stop vehicles when they are seen on the roads. Deputies will respond to reports of gatherings, such as parties, collections of people at residences, and groups of people in public. A healthy dose of common sense must be administered by the public and by the law enforcement response in these times and we will come out of the other side in much better shape than if the order had not been given. Here is a link to the Governor’s website which lists all of the executive orders which have been issued so far. I hope this helps.
