Superior, Wisconsin - September 17, 2019 (LSN) The University of Wisconsin-Superior Jazz Band will perform with the home-grown rock band the Circuit Breakers in a special concert on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at The Rex in Duluth.
The Jazz Meets Rock show will include the two bands each playing a short set before finishing the evening with a combined performance that will include music from James Brown, Amy Winehouse and Bruno Mars, , among others.
“Several years ago I hit upon the idea about combining forces with the rock band I play with, the Circuit Breakers,” said Greg Kehl Moore, UW-Superior professor of Jazz Ensembles and Saxophone. “We think it’s nice to get out into the community and play outside of campus.”
Before heading across the bridge, the 18-piece UW-Superior Jazz Band, which is directed by Moore, will perform a special lunchtime concert from noon to 1 p.m. in UW-Superior’s Yellowjacket Union. This performance is free and open to the public.
The Circuit Breakers include Moore, keyboards, sax and vocals; David Clift, guitar, sax and vocals; Bill Moulder, bass and vocals; UWS alumni Sam Maida, drums and vocals; and Nick Hyde, violin.
“It’s a really fun concert,” said Moore. “Jazz was not traditionally performed in concert halls. It was performed in dance halls. I think we’re honoring the tradition of the music to take it out into the community.”
The suggested donation for the performance is $5. The Rex is located in Fitger’s at 600 E Superior St in Duluth.
