THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~ June 18, 2020 (LSN) The City of Thunder Bay’s Canada Day event, presented by Ontario Power Generation, will look different this year, but there's no shortage of activities that people can enjoy safely from their homes.
With restrictions still in place due to COVID-19, the Canada Day Celebration will be virtual this year with a three-day program with 50th Anniversary flare. It will include a science show, art projects, trivia, cooking demonstrations, concerts and more. Programming will run from June 29 – July 1, culminating with a series of performances in the evening on Canada Day.
“Although we can’t gather together in person for the event this year, I want to wish everyone a very Happy Canada Day!” said Mayor Bill Mauro. “I encourage everyone to participate in the many activities that will be shared online leading up to the big day.”
"The pandemic is forcing us to get creative; it's essential to engage the community and look for creative ways to celebrate safely; online programming will allow us to do this," said Louisa Costanzo, Supervisor of Cultural Development & Events. "We have planned a variety of virtual activities to celebrate a unique Canada Day."
The three days of activities range from a multi-municipal NHL20 online tournament to cupcake decorating, a virtual scavenger, and much more. The celebration will end on July 1, 2020, with a virtual concert starting at 7 pm. Performances by the Thunder Bay World Dance Collective, Martin Blanchet, Jean-Paul De Roover and Almost Abba, with surprise video messages and much more. It will be a great show, one not to miss!
