Wednesday August 18, 2021 created a wave

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~~~  August 19, 2021  (LSNews) Wednesday, August 19, 2021 created a wave. That wave will continue for many years to come. Test and tune night at DQ Speedway in Thunder Bay. As you drive onto the raceway property to the parking area the view is deceiving as it is not until you round the corner to the entrance that you find the grandstands filled with so many spectators.

I was quite frankly blown away at the support from the people of Thunder Bay and surrounding area to be there and add to the excitement. The stands area is top notch and nothing is overlooked in terms of detail. The track is at its finishing touches stage with many more hours to complete it. With that being said it found me not longing for anything and was amazed at what has been created for fans and drivers so far. You find yourself gazing at the wonderful position of the track so that the spectators in the main grandstands have their backs to the sun, a wonderful thought that went into the placement in the planning stages.

The pits,,,, well the pits are grand, no muck to walk through like way back in the Riverview Race way days! The pits boast much breathing room for the rigs, trailers and race cars. The turnout was beyond what we expected. It was a far cry from my father's old truck hauling in his race car to see the size of some of the amazing haulers and trailers! The people of Thunder Bay have been patiently longing for this moment! An estimated 2500-3000 spectators graced the speedway last night for test and tune and walked through the "Welcome Arch" as my father Richard Schutte called it. Moments are still flashing through my mind of the excitement of everyone attending the test night. The fans, racers and numerous volunteers and staff were abuzz with the anticipation of hearing that first engine rev!. The drivers did not disappoint.

The clay was flying and the drivers put on an amazing show. It was heartwarming to see the adults that brought their children out to witness their first taste of racing in Thunder Bay. I know that my father's passion will seep into many of those kids and they will be our future racers! I was brought back to those moments of watching my Dad race during my childhood. We know the track will bring the drivers from miles around and it is going to be WONDERFUL!! This is official! It IS happening. September 17/18/19 with be the first race. Racers get your cars tuned and ready to race!

My father pushed for ten years to have this moment happen and with Norm and Louis Nadine at the helm they brought this track to life. It was an emotional night for me, bitter sweet as my father Richard Schutte had passed just a short month ago. I know he was there and smiling as he knew that his dream of racing is back in Thunder Bay
