CALGARY, Alta. – November 20, 2017  (LSN)   Hockey Canada and the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), with assistance from NHL Central Scouting, have zeroed in on a list of 100 players from across the country who are invited to selection camps in advance of the 2017 World Junior A Challenge.

From Dec. 2-5, 40 Team CSaveanada East hopefuls will gather at the MasterCard Centre in Etobicoke, Ont., for four days of scheduled games and practices as part of Team Canada East’s evaluation process.

THUNDER BAY. ONTARIO – November 19, 2017  (LSN)  In Thunder Bay Ontario we are about as far as you can get from the automobile racing circuits but we have forged a rich history of competitive racing. As early as the 1920s, almost 100 years ago, automobiles took over the horse tracks and amazed spectators with their speed and the daring of their drivers.

In the fifties and sixties, one of the memorable periods of local competition, race drivers became stars in their own right and were as well known as the hockey heroes of the day. One of the legends of the time, known for his fiery personality was at some point presented with a tee shirt emblazoned with the declaration “If you don’t know Louie Tocheri you’re not from around here.” There was a lot of truth in that.

In a pair of road contests over the weekend, Simonson scored three times to help the No. 1 Canadian Junior Hockey League-ranked Norskies sweep a two-game set against the Thunder Bay North Stars.

The contest, which features a “Border Battle” format, will see the Canadian All-Stars taking on the American All-Stars with the game being played in the same town of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.

Pacing Thunder Bay offensively on a three-game road trip, Mignault amassed a combined 11 points in those outings as his club scored an impressive 26 times in a trio of victories.

THUNDER BAY. ONTARIO – October 18, 2017  The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thief River Falls Norskies forward Parker Simonson has been named the Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Oct. 15.

In two outings last week the 20-year-old from Bismarck, N.D., racked up five points helping Thief River Falls extended their franchise-best winning streak to eight to begin the 2017-18 campaign.

Simonson began by tallying twice, including the game-winner, as the Norskies blanked the visiting English River Miners 3-0 at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

In two starts over the weekend the 20-year-old Kamloops, B.C., product won both of them helping Thief River Falls improve to 6-0 on the season.

HOYT LAKES, Minn. --  October 7, 2017  (LSN)  The Minnesota Iron Rangers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that former team goaltender Chase Hollander has joined the defending NCAA Frozen Four champion University of Denver Pioneers hockey staff as a volunteer coach.

Hollander spent the 2012-13 campaign in the SIJHL with the Iron Rangers before going on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stout and tend goal for the Blue Devils men’s hockey program.

He graduated from the UW-Stout this past May with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minor in coaching.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  -  October 6, 2017  (LSN)  In recognition of his career, local racer John Jones was inducted into the NWO Sports Hall of Fame on Sept 30th. Putting Thunder Bay on the map, as one of less than two dozen Canadians to race in the Indianapolis 500, the fabled 24 Hours of Lemans in France, youngest IMSA  champion, Jones was a well deserving inductee in the class of 2017.

John Jones would actually do little racing locally but would have quite a career in racing, he would go from racing go-carts in the K-Mart parking lot to bigger and better things, making his way to auto racing‘s crown jewel, the Indianapolis 500, and the famed 24 Hours of Lemans in France. John started racing, not on the dirt tracks in Thunder Bay but racing on the ice in winter along side his dad Tom and brother Parnelli in the early 1980's.

THUNDER BAY, Ontario – August 30, 2017   (LSN)  The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that they will be hosting an All-Star Game on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017 at the Hippodrome in Eveleth, Minn.  
Featuring a "Border Battle" format, the contest will see Canadian All-Stars taking on the American All-Stars with the game being played in the same town of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.  

The players for each team will be selected from the league's six member clubs based on their citizenship as well as by their respective efforts on the ice through the first two and a half months of the 2017-18 SIJHL regular season.

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  Auguest 25, 2017  (LSN) The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday its preseason schedule heading into the 2017-18 campaign.

There are presently 10 contests on the league’s exhibition slate with preseason action set to begin on Friday, Sept. 8 as the Fort Frances Lakers host the Minnesota Iron Rangers while the Thief River Falls Norskies travel to Manitoba to take on the Winkler Flyers (MJHL) in a pair of 7:30 p.m. CT starts.

Winkler and Thief River Falls will then finish off a home-and-home set the following evening at Ralph Engelstad Arena at 7 p.m. CT.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO,  Auguest 15, 2017  (LSN)   Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that defenceman Callum Fryer has committed to the program.

The 21-year-old rearguard played the past two seasons with the University of Massachusetts where he led the team in blocked shots both years. Like his former UMass teammate Nic Renyard who committed to Lakehead last month, Fryer has three years of athletic eligibility remaining.
