SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. —  October 14, 2017   (LSN)   A Border Patrol agent assigned to the Sault Sainte Marie Station assisted in reviving a Bruce Township man.

On October 12, 2017, at around 9 p.m., Chippewa County Central Dispatch received an emergency call request for an unresponsive subject who was not breathing.

#LSN_Crime  In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 24, 1930, U.S. Immigration Inspectors, Laurence E. Doten and Lawrence C. Jones, were brutally murdered, while in performance of their duties in Emo, Ontario, Canada.

WARROAD, MINNESOTA  - October 10, 2017   (LSN)  U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations honored Immigration Inspectors Laurence E. Doten and Lawrence C. Jones who were killed in the line of duty 87 years ago on Aug. 24, 1930. Laurence E. Doten and Lawrence C. Jones were shot and killed as they traveled on the Canadian National train between Fort Frances, Ontario, and Warroad, Minnesota, while clearing passengers entering the United States.

“Today we memorialize these men who sacrificed their lives for this great nation,” said Port Director Jared Olafson. “The ultimate sacrifice made by these men exemplifies the highest core values of our agency — vigilance, service to country, and integrity.”

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. —  August 28, 2017   (LSN) U.S. CusCBP officers at the International Falls Port of Entry in Minnesota recently seized a shipment of counterfeit Barbie dolls.  Lake Superior Newstoms and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations officers working at the International Falls Port of Entry (POE) recently targeted a rail container destined to arrive at the Ranier POE. In August, CBP officers inspected the rail container and discovered merchandise that violated multiple laws and regulations.

The merchandise consisted of 3,004 fashion dolls. Examination of the merchandise revealed piratical copies of Mattel’s CEO Barbie. As a result, CBP seized those items. The counterfeit merchandise had an aggregate manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $85,824.

THUNDER BAY, PIGEON RIVER, ONTARIO  August 17, 2017  (LSN)  On August 8, 2017, two individuals seeking entry to Canada were referred for secondary examination.

During examination of the vehicle, border services officers found a list of things to pack, which included an item “pistol/shells.” Upon questioning, the driver admitted to having a concealed loaded handgun in the camper.

THUNDER BAY, ON - August 16, 2017  (LSN)  Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a theft that occurred in the Municipality of Shuniah.

The item stolen is a Kubota mini excavator. The theft occurred at the parking lot of the Shuniah Volunteer Fire Hall on Lakeshore Drive sometime between August 10 and August 14, 2017.
