SNVS and OPP  #LSN_Crime

MARATHON, ON – October 14, 2016 (LSN) On October 14th, 2016 the Marathon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Superior North Victim Services entered into an Agency Agreement to better support victims of crime in the Municipalities of Marathon and Manitouwadge.

Superior North Victim Services has been providing 24/7 practical and emotional support to victims of crime since its creation in 2006. Their services have historically been complimentary to the ongoing police duty to assist victims of crime, but the two organizations did not have an official agreement that allowed the proactive exchange of information.

In signing this agreement, Superior North Victim Services and the OPP have formalized their relationship to improve the communication of information and provide a more effective and coordinated response to the needs of victims in the community. The agreement has made Superior North Victim Services an agent of the OPP, which allows for the proactive sharing of information for the purposes of helping to ensure that victims have greater access to critical victims’ services.

Moving forward, Superior North Victim Services will now be better equipped with information from the OPP to better fulfil their mandate to assist victims of crime. If you have been victimized in the past and feel that you could benefit from the support of Superior North Victim Services, they can be contacted by calling (807) 229-8877.
