Film Born to be Blue #LSN_Arts

THUNDER BAY, ON ---  October 6, 2016 (LSN)  On Friday, October 14 at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium,  there will be a free screening of the film Born to be Blue presented by the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. The event will be hosted by The Honourable Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North.

Filmed in Northern Ontario, Born to be Blue is a reimagining of jazz legend, Chet Baker’s career and personal life at a key moment in the 1960s as he attempts a comeback.  Academy Award-nominated actor Ethan Hawke received critical acclaim for his performance as Baker.

Minister Gravelle and Born to be Blue producer Jennifer Jonas will be on hand to discuss the growing film industry in Northern Ontario.

“Upending the conventions of the musical rise-and-fall formula while still offering a relatively straightforward three-act narrative, the film is anchored by an Ethan Hawke performance that ranks among the best of his career.” – Variety

“A soulful performance... I could absolutely see Hawke's performance garnering attention from Gotham Independent Film Awards and Independent Spirit Awards voters, if not members of the Academy.” – Hollywood Reporter

This is a FREE event, open to the public.

Thunder Bay Community Auditorium 7 pm.

Non-perishable food will be collected at the door for the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA).
