THUNDER BAY, ON    ----    January 4, 2016   ----  The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) and Thunder Bay & District Entrepreneur Centre (EC) along with the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre will be hosting a series of free workshops for entrepreneurs starting in February 2016.

Running through to March, the seminars are aimed at small business owners and will cover topics in marketing and communications, media, online advertising, as well as research & development tax credits. Organizer Lexie Penko says, “We’re finding that clients are looking for training and education around online advertising, blogging, and public relations, so we’re bringing in presenters with a lot of knowledge in those areas.”

The upcoming workshop series will feature presenters with expert insight and experience in copy writing, broadcasting, digital advertising, accounting, and corporate taxation.

The first of the series, Drive Website Traffic with Google Adwords, will take place on February 2nd, and will be presented by Tyler Zegil, a local entrepreneur and marketing executive for Lakehead Motors/iCar Canada. Tyler will provide an in-depth tutorial on how to place targeted online ads with Google Adwords. He will take you through the platform and show you how to do keyword research, telling you what to look for and using real-life examples. Tyler says, “Google Adwords is effective because of its flexibility. Anyone can use it and you have total control over your ads and your budget.” Attendees will leave the seminar knowing to bid smart and choose the best keywords for their Google ads.

Shelley Jacobson (Right Track Digital Communications Inc.) is a certified content marketing strategist and SEO copywriter who has worked with FOX Interactive, Corus Entertainment and local organizations including Hospice Northwest. Shelley will introduce you to powerful, non-interruptive marketing techniques that will help establish trust and build loyalty with your target audience so they choose you over your competition. She will show you how and where to find your target audience, how to leverage media channels to acquire new clients, automation secrets that will convert strangers into loyal customers, and how to build your email list without sounding ‘spammy’.

Shelley's workshop, How to Promote Your Business Online and Increase Sales, taking place on March 1st, will show you how and when to create powerful content that will resonate with your target audience.

There will be a Media Relations seminar on March 15th presented by Aleksa Shermack of PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise. Aleksa will draw on her background in broadcasting and communications to tell businesses why befriending the media can work to their advantage. This seminar will also teach small businesses how to create and maintain positive relationships with the media and leverage those relationships to get great media coverage.
