Chill Complete Weekend Sweep of Menace

THUNDER BAY, ON  ---- June 12, 2011 ---   Brandon Swartzendruber led the way for the Thunder Bay Chill on Saturday night as they shutout division rivals Des Moines Menace 3-0. The defeat means the Chill completed the sweep of the Menace in their opening home series at Chapples Park, Thunder Bay.

Gustavo Oliviera took up his usual role of playmaker in the 17th minute, providing Swartzendruber with the pass that led to the first goal of the game. Oliviera was hurt on the play and was substituted. Shortly after, Oliviera's substitute, local talent Skandar Babay scored the game's second goal. Babay latched on to a Jordian Farahani free-kick in the 24th minute to give his team a decisive lead going into the half. The second half was marred for the Chill as defender Farahani was sent off with a red card after being shown his second yellow of the match. Nolan Intermoia put the contest to bed in the 90th minute after being sent in on goal by Anthony Putrus, and Intermoia calmly slid the ball past the Menace Keeper.

Jordian Farahani (2), Pedro Pereria, and Anthony Putrus all were shown yellows for the Chill. Finn Jor, Jupic Hursef, and former Chill player Anthony Colaizzi saw yellows for the Menace. The Chill will continue with play at home next weekend against the Springfield Demize. Games will take place on Friday, June 17th, and Saturday, June 18th, at Chapples Park. Both games will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. (EDT)
