Duluth, MN, May 29, 2013 --- The Superior Man is an epic triathlon that draws athletes from around North America to “Escape from the Vista Fleet” into the bay of Lake Superior. On August 25th in Duluth, MN athletes will embark on a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run along Lake Superior’s North Shore. A unique transition inside Amsoil arena and grand finish in Bayfront Park are a part of why Minnesota Triathletes rated the inaugural event as a 2012 Top 10 Athlete’s Choice Race of the Year.
“We are very excited to have Kestrel and National Bank of Commerce back as co-title sponsors of the Superior Man Triathlon. These two great local companies’ investments in the community helped us to launch the inaugural event and will continue to elevate the athlete and spectator experience in 2013,” said Clint Agar, Executive Director of the Superior Man Triathlon and CEO of Duluth Running Co.
“Last year’s triathlon was grueling for participants and wildly entertaining for spectators, so National Bank of Commerce is pleased to help bring this exciting sport back to our community,” said Bruce Webb, President of NBC’s Minnesota Banks, adding that Kestrel Aircraft Company is joining the bank as co-presenting sponsors. “We hope everyone in the area will come out on August 25 to enjoy all the festivities.”
Alan Klapmeier, a global aviation visionary, launched Kestrel Aircraft Company in 2010 and leads a highly accomplished Kestrel team as CEO and Chairman. “Kestrel was very happy with last year's participation in the Superior Man. We believe that community participation and promoting a healthy lifestyle, are important company values. We look forward to the Superior Man Triathlon becoming a premier event in the Superior/Duluth area,” stated Klapmeier.
Along with their roles as co-title sponsors, each company has their hand in making the Superior Man Triathlon a premiere event. National Bank of Commerce is sponsoring the 300-person volunteer team. Kestrel Aircraft is sponsoring a spectator mobile app and will feature a full size mockup of their single engine turboprop aircraft at packet pickup on Saturday, August 24 and at the finish line party on Sunday, August 25.
