North West LHIN’s Board Chair Reappointed


THUNDER BAY, ON   ------   January 29, 2013  --- The North West Local Health Integration L. Joy Warkentin as Chair of the North West LHIN Board of DirectorsNetwork (LHIN) is pleased to announce the reappointment of L. Joy Warkentin as Chair of the North West LHIN Board of Directors, effective January 27, 2013. Ms. Warkentin was first appointed to the Board as Director in January 2010. She was appointed Board Chair in August 2011.

Ms. Warkentin was educated as a Registered Nurse and holds a Master of Education degree from Lakehead University. Most recently, Ms. Warkentin served as Senior Vice-President, Academic Services at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario from 2000 until her retirement in 2009. Prior to that, she was Associate Dean, Academic at Confederation College following her role as Chair of Health Sciences.

Ms. Warkentin has received numerous awards for her leadership and contributions to the education system. In 2009, she received the Minister’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. She was also awarded Fanshawe College’s first Vice-President Emeritus in recognition of her contributions to Fanshawe College, and her 40 years of service to Ontario’s college system.

Ms. Warkentin has also been an active community volunteer, serving on many health and community boards at a local and provincial level. She was a past member of the Premier’s Council on Health, Wellness and Social Justice, and Chair of the Association of District Health Councils of Ontario. She was awarded the Women of Excellence Award for Education in 2009 by the YMCA of London for her volunteer and educational leadership.
