Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet #LSN_Arts
THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO --- November 6, 2016 (LSN) Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet by Ann-Marie MacDonald, directed by Sheena Albanese, opens on November 16th at the Finlandia Hall. This award winning play (Governor General's Award, Floyd S. Chalmers Canadian Play Award, Canadian Authors Association) was first produced by Toronto’s Nightwood Theatre in 1988.
The play tells the story of Constance Ledbelly, an earnest university professor who believes that the Shakespearean tragedies, Othello and Romeo & Juliet, were intended as comedies. Constance can’t prove this to her supervisor and she begins to despair the importance of her research. So begins her subconscious journey into the world of these two plays and her unintended interference in their plots.
Twists and turns follow as Constance learns about the heroines – Desdemona and Juliet – and about herself. Get ready for a completely new
take on these classic heroines, full of mistaken identities, cross-dressing, sword fights, seductions and reversals.
