Great Community Productions

THUNDER BAY, ON ---  February 11, 2011  ---  The forthcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webers musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is the type activity I truly support.

Diane Laaksonen the prime mover behind this production works for months on end so that she can present one single outstanding production each year. As a parish organist Diane has produced all manner of classical works for organ, strings and choirs over the years. Nothing but good comes from producing these works. For one thing they are good for the choir in that it provides a challenge for the singers and it gives them a reason to come out to rehearsals.

Like Diane’s productions before it the proceeds of her hard work are given entirely to charity; in this case to the Canadian Food Bank for worldwide hunger relief. Only a person such as Kevin O’Leary could find fault with something like that!

For Diane, this production is more into the realm of popular music and promises to be a humorous fun filled family friendly evening. There are two evening performances (Friday & Sat. Feb. 17 & 18) followed by a matinee performance the following Sunday. The evening performances begin at 7:00 p.m. and the Sunday matinee will start at 3:00 p.m. Admission is a very reasonable $10.00. The show is at Lakeview Presbyterian Church in Thunder Bay, on Camelot Street.

Diane Laaksonen has some very good help this production, her daughter Hanna well known in the local acting community will take care of the theatrical details, and long term friend Darlene Chepil-Reid has worked up arrangements for the live band and will assist with the music. Diane will concentrate on getting the choir to sound its best. The ladies of the church choir together with young women volunteers from LU and the community “Have produces in interesting multi-generational choir.

There will be lots of sights and sounds and actions in this production, sure to delight young and old. I plan to attend at least one of the shows.
