ART ZOOM 2009!

Minimize

THUNDER BAY, ON - November 30, 2009 - 3rd time’s the charm! This installment of Art Art Zoom 2009Zoom in the North Core, sponsored by “The
Heart of the Harbour BIA” has 24 businesses, including galleries, supporting more than
50 artists/musicians/writers of Thunder Bay.

The businesses are excited by the event as it draws people into shops they may otherwise
never visit. Artists are excited to sell their work, and expose themselves to the public. My
excitement is generated by the potential future prospects of the North Core and the revitalization of Port Arthur as a proper city center, especially with the construction of the new waterfront. I think ART ZOOM gives the public and local artists/musicians/writers a peek at what the future has for making a vibrant city core.

Art Zoom Poster

Art Zoom is considered a “Park and Walk” event and our posters and ads invite people to
“Join the Crowd” as we expect to draw 400 people this year, weather permitting. We
have carolers, a horse and wagon, Santa Clause, a roaming magician, and in 3 of our
larger spaces - performing musicians. The artists include potters, jewelers, painters, and
sculptors. The DEFSUP gallery has its own opening events as well, including 3 new art
shows. Should be fun.

Please call or write me, Duncan Weller for any further information.
Thanks,

Saturday, December 5; from 5PM to 9PM.

The Last Best PlacesArtZoom and the St. Paul Art Gallery will be the scene for the official launch of an exciting new book about Thunder Bay, The Last Best Places: Storytelling about Thunder Bay’s Historic Buildings, by Tania L. Saj and published by River Rocks Publishing. Tania - an anthropologist who was born, raised and educated in Thunder Bay before going on to receive her PhD from University of Calgary – spent two years of research tracking down stories about her hometown’s oldest buildings. The Last Best Places digs deep to bring alive the early history and vibrant social life of Port Arthur and Fort William through events that happened in its buildings. Tania is also the author of the best-selling Life in a Thundering Bay: Voices from Thunder Bay’s Past.
