Barry Streib runs for Thunder Bay Councillor at-Large

Thunder Bay, ON ----- July 4, 2014 -----Barry Streib, a well-respected business leader and community volunteer, announced his bid today for the 2014 Thunder Barry Streib Bay Municipal Election. Seeking a Councillor at-Large seat, Streib launched his campaign in a room full of community supporters, family and friends.

Barry has lived and worked in the community for over 26 years and truly calls Thunder Bay home. Streib's campaign for Council centers on being a sensible voice and therefore, the smart choice to represent residents of Thunder Bay. Streib's approach is to leverage his unique combination of business, political and community service to make balanced and sensible decisions that serve the best interests of the entire community.

Streib, who is currently a Director on the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and is best known for founding the Thunder Bay Blues Festival and the Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant in Thunder Bay, says: "The last 26 years of serving Northwestern Ontario in business and as a community volunteer have prepared me well for municipal politics. Now is the right time for me to bring my knowledge, experience and community passion to Thunder Bay City Council. I believe that my voice is needed to represent this community and is the smart choice to lead, support and assist in guiding us to make the important decisions ahead."

Streib continued: "The number one issue for Thunder Bay right now is balancing strategic community development with the rising costs of living and doing business. I am committed to listening to the people of our community, as each and every one of our citizens are deeply concerned about taxation, the cost of housing, how we can improve infrastructure and their economic security. Thunder Bay is changing and many of the changes have been very positive, however residents should not feel overwhelmed about these changes. We need to all work together to build a sustainable growing economy that will bring opportunities for everyone. And as our economy grows and prospers we can better serve those truly in need.

During his career, Streib has worked in business management, marketing and communications. Highly regarded in his field, Streib has often been called to serve for initiatives such as: Minister of Northern Development & Mines Northern Advisory Committee, Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce, Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Foundation and Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. For his tireless efforts advocating and representing Thunder Bay, Streib has been honoured with several awards.

"One of my strengths is bringing people together to get things done so that our community can create opportunities that benefit everyone," continues Streib. "I am very passionate about Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario and have a strong desire to serve; and I believe that through focused and intelligent decision-making we can make a positive difference in Thunder Bay. I am asking the community to vote for me - I am a sensible voice and the smart choice for Thunder Bay."
