LARGEST-EVER LEADERSHIP THUNDER BAY CLASS GRADUATES

THUNDER BAY, ON ------  June 19, 2016 (LSN) The Leadership Thunder Bay class of 2016, the largest class in the program’s 12 year history, graduated this evening in a ceremony at Fort William Historical Park.  28 participants from a wide variety of organizations and businesses successfully completed the 10-month community leadership development program.

Leadership Thunder Bay President Kelly Fettes encouraged the graduates to take full advantage of the skills that they have acquired.

“Our hope for this class is that you will go forward knowing and understanding your community more in depth and that you will find a way to more readily make decisions – whether they are easy or challenging ones”, she said.

Bombardier’s Alyx Sparkes was valedictorian.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the results of the participants’ Community Action Projects (CAPs), the experiential component of the program whereby participants work in teams to complete projects that support local initiatives while helping participants build core leadership skills.  Five CAPs were undertaken this year.

The Leadership Thunder Bay alumni association presented ACE (Acknowledging Community Engagement) awards to four LTB graduates:  Kyle Jessiman, Kristin Oliver, Katherine Keeping and Laura Daniele.

Leadership Thunder Bay is designed to help participants acquire both a broader understanding of the critical issues affecting our community and the leadership skills necessary to resolve them. It helps prepare participants for the challenges of their own life-long leadership journeys, shows how to build skills and develops awareness for the rich opportunities for leadership in Thunder Bay.  Applications to the 2017 program are currently being accepted.
