HUNDER BAY, ONTARIO --- April 11, 2017  (LSN)  On Saturday, April 29, the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra will present an epic event in the most unlikely location.  The century old Port Arthur Shipyards industrial backdrop will provide a unique stage for a wondrous musical affair.  Established in 1911,  the Port Arthur shipyard built and repaired many ships during its years of operation, including warships during the First and Second World Wars, passenger steamers, warheads and freighters.

New owners, Current River Holdings, in partnership with Fabmar, have plans to reopen the shipyard  in Spring 2017. But before they do, get your dancing shoes on and dress to impress, because we are throwing a party!

Music Director Arthur Post has curated a play list to include your symphonic favorites as well as current hits. The evening will kick off with the Martin Blanchet Jazz Quartet, followed by Maestro Posts final Thunder Bay concert after a seven year career in our city. Featuring your TBSO  and accompanying vocalists Spencer Hari, Tiina Flank, Amanda Mihalus and Craig Smyth, the evening will include dance favorites and feature music from the likes of Billy Joel, Prince and more!

To keep your energy up on dance floor, we are thrilled to be partnering with Chef Andrew Stone from Daytona’s Kitchen and Creative Catering with a selection of enticing food stations through out the evening.  Features include a carving station, pasta station, South of the boarder station and a charcuterie station. The food stations will be open from 7:00-9:00 giving guests plenty of opportunity sample the many offerings. Dessert, coffee and tea to follow. A cocktail bar curated especially for the event by Frape and Sons Bitters and award winning, locally brewed beer from Sleep Giant and Dawson Trail will also be featured.

The support doesn’t end there! Our gracious community has donated services, products, art and experiences for you to bid on in the Silent Auction. Plus, there is a wine pull at the beginning of the evening.

The evening’s proceeds will go to support the TBSO’s Youth and Education Programs, dedicated to providing a well-rounded education and enriched life. The money raised will help support Musicians in the Classroom, Grade 3 sing-along, Side by Side, Link-up and a variety of other extremely important programs that are designed to create intimate orchestral experiences from a young age. This is our commitment to the future of live orchestral music.
