THUNDER BAY, ON --- May 8, 2013 --- The Thunder Bay Musicians Association, Local 591, is hosting a number of exciting events to honour its 75th anniversary from May 22nd to May 26th.
To start celebrations, on May 22nd to 24th, live music will greet travellers at the Thunder Bay International
Airport as they arrive during 9:30am - 10:30am, 3:00pm - 4:00pm and 7:00pm - 8:00pm.
On Saturday, May 25th, guest speakers are Alan Willaert, VP, American Federation of Musicians for Canada and the United States and Liana White, Executive Director, Canadian Federation of Musicians will present “The Business of Being in the Music Business” a free music workshop is open to anyone interested starting at 1:00pm at the Victoria Inn. Topics include recording, P2 Visa, copyright issues and pension.
Also on Saturday, a Musical Showcase, featuring live music, Victoria Inn Ballroom, begins at 8:00pm showcasing four local bands, Flipper Flanagan’s Flat Footed Four, Scott van Teeffelen and The Backroads
Band, James Boraski & Momentary Evolution and the Sensational Hot Rods with free admission to the public.
On Sunday, May 26th at the Victoria Inn, a buffet dinner is planned starting at 6:00pm and live music throughout the evening; Symposium - Mood Indigo, Strolling Musicians - John Scaffeo, Wayne Faulconer and Dance Band - Roy Coran’s Big Band.
We will also present awards for 25 years, 50 years, life membership and Musician of the Year (nominated and voted by the membership). Our Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to William (Billy) Hayes who has been a member of our Local for over sixty years.
