THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO -----  March 10, 2015   ----  Jessica Saunders, Client and Community Relations Coordinator at Thunder Bay's,  St. Joseph’s Care Group, has been selected as one of Ontario’s 20 Faces of Change.

The awards were created by The Change Foundation to honour those who have inspired positive client and patient-centred change within the provincial healthcare system.

Saunders, who received the award last night at a ceremony in Toronto, was selected from among 80 submissions.  The 31-year-old calls it “a group achievement.”

“When I was told that I would be receiving the award, I felt an incredible amount of pride because of the work that St. Joseph's Care Group has done to develop and implement a Model of Client-Centred Care,” Saunders said. “I am blessed to be part of a group of extremely committed staff, clients and families and feel honoured to accept the award on everyone's behalf.”

Since 2012, Jessica has collaborated with clients, families and staff to ensure client-centred care practices are embedded across the organization. Her work includes facilitation of client and family storytelling sessions for the Board of Directors, staff education on client-centred principles, and the development of a Client and Family Partner Program.

The 20 Faces of Change Awards are part of the Change Foundation’s 20th Anniversary celebrations. The Change Foundation is an independent healthcare think tank, intent on changing the debate, the practice and the healthcare experience in Ontario. Its strategic goal is to improve people’s healthcare experience as they move in, out of, and across the healthcare system over time.

“We are so proud of what Jessica has accomplished to advance Client-Centred Care at St. Joseph’s Care Group,” said Tracy Buckler, President & CEO. “We are passionate about creating care environments where each client’s individual needs are acknowledged and respected, and where clients and families have opportunities to share their experiences in order to improve the care for future clients.”
