THUNDER BAY, ON   ----    April 25, 2015  ---- Thunder Bay mezzo-soprano will take the stage at St.Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on May 9th, with Sean Kim at the piano to perform a diverse program of classical to broadway repertoire. Theresa has had a busy 2014-2015 performing at many venues locally, such as Cabaret on Bay, anthems at the Lakehead Thunderwolves games, the ORAS Chamber Choir, and as a soloist with Mood Indigo this past year. More recently, Thibert performed in Cambrian Player’s The War Show at the Paramount Theatre, singing a wide variety of roles and musical solos. A Master of Music (vocal performance) degree holder from the University of Western Ontario, Theresa has had the opportunity to study with renowned opera singers and coaches such as Sophie Louise Roland, Mel Braun, Ted Baerg, and Laura Loewen. Thibert’s most recent opera credits include roles in The Magic Flute, Suor Angelica, and I’Incoronazione di Poppea. Theresa has had the opportunity to perform as an a soloist with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, as well as Orchestra London Canada, under the direction of conductors Geoffrey Moull, Mark Payne, Daniel Bartholemew-Poyser, and Simone Luti. This summer, Theresa will return to Lucca, Tuscany(Italy) to perform the role of Thisbe in Rossini’s Cenerentola, with the Academia Europa dell’ Opera company.

Sean Kim, Sean Kim, born in Korea, attended the University of Western Ontario to complete a Bachelors degree in theory and composition (2001) and a Masters degree in composition (2003). While at Western, Sean studied piano with John-Paul Bracey and Gwen Beamish, harpsichord with Dr. Sandra Mangsen, composition with, among others, Dr. Omar Daniel and Dr. Peter Paul Koprowsky, and conducting with Jerome Summers. Currently, he is working on Ph.D. in music composition under the guidance of Dr. Paul Frehner at the UWO. Currently residing in Thunder Bay, Sean is the organist at St.Andrew’s Church, and plays for many other local churches, in addition to teaching. Kim is also a performer with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra for a number of concerts.

The May 9th concert is the first concert Thibert and Kim are presenting with a vision of bringing live opera to life in the city of Thunder Bay. Future projects include an opera project, aiming to found an opera company locally,  providing emerging artists an opportunity to perform opera, and Thunder Bay audiences a chance to learn and be exposed to this rich musical, cultural heritage. This concert programme consists of repertoire ranging from baroque composers such as Handel, to romantic composers like Brahms, and Bizet. The programme will conclude with a set of Broadway favourites from musicals Les Miserables, and Wicked.

The show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday May the 9th, at St.Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Admission is by donation at the door, and all are welcome.
