Bobby Orr to attend Staal Open

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - MARCH 31 — Hockey Hall of Fame legend Bobby Orr will lend his support to the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel this summer. Bobby Orr will be onsite at Whitewater Golf Club,in Thunder BAy,  on Tuesday July 14th and Wednesday July 15th participating in various events to support the tournament’s charity efforts.

“Learning that Bobby has decided to participate in our event this summer is absolutely thrilling,” said Scott Smith, Executive Director. “Bobby has shown a strong interest in supporting Thunder Bay and region and our efforts to raise money for charity along with the Staal Family Foundation. We hope his presence will help us take our event and its community impact to the next level.”

“Having a legend of the game like Bobby Orr joining us to support the Staal Family Foundation in Thunder Bay this summer is a huge honor for our family,” said Eric Staal. “When you think of the biggest icons in the game, Bobby is up there with the very best of them, and someone my brothers and I revered growing up. We can’t wait to have him join us in Thunder Bay this summer.”

Orr started playing for the Boston Bruins at 18 years of age and collected numerous accolades, including eight consecutive Norris Trophies as the league’s top defenseman and three Hart Trophies as the league’s Most Valuable Player. He retired from the game in October of 1978 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.

Since his retirement, Orr has worked frequently with charitable initiatives and has maintained close links with the game. He later became an agent, helping young players benefit by sharing his difficult early experiences through the business side of the sport.

“It’s a tremendous honor to have one of hockey’s all-time greats at this year’s Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel,” said PGA TOUR Canada President Jeff Monday. “The community support and charitable impact of the event’s inaugural year was exceptional, complimented by the presence of the Staal family and other high-profile NHLers and celebrities. With Bobby generously lending his support, we look forward to the event making an even bigger difference in Thunder Bay and region this year.”

“When I was approached with this opportunity, it was an easy choice for me to lend my support.

What this event and the Staal family have done in bringing people from the hockey and golf communities together and raising money for charity is incredible, and I’m happy to be taking part in the event.” said Bobby Orr

The current schedule has Bobby Orr visiting Tuesday and Wednesday. A more detailed schedule will be released at a later date
