THUNDER BAY, ON --- October 30, 2015 ----- Local Play writing workshop Nov 2nd. Thunder Bay may be applauding 10 newly-discovered playwrights come April, 2016.
The curtain will rise on the first show of new and original works penned by local writers at the Finlandia Club on April 30th, 2016.
When the final curtain descends on the Fourth Annual 10x10 Play Showcase on May 1st, ten local writers will have taken a giant step into the exciting world of playwriting.
The most exciting news is that you or someone you know might be among these new talents which hundreds will applaud. It all starts with submitting a manuscript for a ten-minute play to the 10x10 jury, consisting of three experienced members of the local theatre community.
To help you get started, 10x10 artistic director Cathi Grandfield is facilitating a playwriting workshop November 2nd . The free public workshop will be at 7 pm at CommuniTea and Coffee, 108 Frederica East. On hand to give friendly advice will be playwright Roy Blomstrom who has successfully submitted several scripts to the showcase in past years and whose play was voted the People's Choice at last year’s 10x10 event. His play "Afternoon at the Beaches" was later performed in the UK and in Finland.

Although the showcase emphasizes new writing, those with experience in any literary genre are encouraged to submit. Each writer may submit only a single manuscript. Plays should have no more than four actors and a minimum of props, lighting and sound effects.
The 10 playwrights whose manuscripts are selected by the jury will be invited to collaborate with a seasoned director in a play development program including written feedback, readings, possible revisions and consultations with a dramaturge, culminating in a fully-staged performance. Selected playwrights may also be invited to develop a script for a new and distinct longer play for performance abroad.
January 23, 2016 is this year's deadline for submitting manuscripts. There is no restriction on subject matter but bold plays contributing to an entertaining program are encouraged. More details and guidelines are available on the event website: http://www.10x10tbay.ca/
Persons interested in technical aspects of theatre as well as in acting and directing should watch this website for information on how to apply.
