THUNDER BAY, ON ---  August 24, 2011  -- A Thunder Bay memorial service will be held for the late Bruce Hyer Olivia Chow Jack Layton CanoeingThunderBayJack Layton, Leader of the Official Opposition. A Book of Condolence for Layton’s family will be available for people to sign.

According to local organizators the plan is to have a simple, non-denominational service about a half-hour long, with Rev. Jan Stevenson from First Wesley United officiating at Hillcrest Park. Rodney Brown will play some music. It is hope that John Rafferty, MP and Bruce Hyer, MP will be able to say a few words as well.

It's will be  very relaxed. We will not be serving any coffee/tea, etc.

It's best for people to bring an umbrella or a lawn chair, if they please.

The non-denominational service will be open to the public:

Books of Condolence may also be signed at the constituency offices of John Rafferty, MP and Bruce Hyer, MP during regular business hours. In lieu of flowers, Layton’s family has asked that people make a small donation to the Broadbent Institute: www.ndp.ca/inmemory

 The government has confirmed that Layton’s body will lie in state in Parliament’s Hall of Honour until Thursday afternoon, after which time people in Toronto will have a chance to pay their respects on Friday and early Saturday. A public state funeral will be held at 2pm Saturday afternoon at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto.
