THUNDER BAY, Ontario ---- MARCH 9, 2015 ----— The Staal Foundation Open, presented by Tbaytel, returns to Thunder Bay's, Whitewater Golf Club, July 13-19 with crowd-pleasing additions to the week-long event.

Continuing on the success of the inaugural event last year that saw over 12,000 people PGA Canadawatch PGA TOUR Canada players from around the world, organizers have been busy planning the activities for this coming year.

“Last year was our first year and our focus was primarily on hosting the best event on PGA TOUR Canada and making certain the competitors, organizers and crowds would look forward to coming back. We are planning to add some additional crowd-pleasers this year, expanding on our objective of providing a week-long festival associated with the golf event for the community to enjoy,” said Joe Quaresima member of the Tournament Director Committee. “Planning is in the works for additional recreational events and expanded viewing opportunities. It’s really about creating a festival atmosphere for the whole family.”

The planning has begun for new activities at this year’s event, including interactive golf, Power Golf and Trick Shot Exhibition, an Executive Women’s Day and a Million Dollar Shootout, involving competitors from Thunder Bay and the entire Northwestern Ontario region.

In addition, there will be an expansion of corporate suites on the 18th green this year, allowing local companies to treat their staff or Staal Foundation Openentertain their clients for a day at the event. There are currently a number of new sponsorship opportunities available as well.

The Staal family will continue to be a major supporter of the event, helping to raise funds for the Staal Family Foundation, supporting families and children battling cancer, along with Tbaytel, returning as presenting sponsor.

“We continue to see this event as a premier sponsorship opportunity for our company,” said Dan Topatigh, President and CEO of Tbaytel. “We were also actively involved on the ground last year as our employees provided stellar service at the site itself. Many of our staff were involved at all levels of the organization and event. We continue to encourage everyone to volunteer and enjoy this world class week.”

The Valhalla Inn has been confirmed again this year as the host hotel for the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel. Mary McLellan, Regional General Manager noted “We really enjoyed being a part of this event.

We felt the event was great for the city and tourism in general and the organization was exceptional.”

Cincinnati, Ohio’s Wes Homan won the inaugural event last year, which impressed players and officials in its first year.

“We have become very well known on the TOUR, and players were very impressed with the event, the golf course and the hospitality they were shown here in Thunder Bay. This will bode well as we continue to press for a permanent annual stop,” said Quaresima.

Tickets are already available on the event website. As with last year, all ticket sale revenues will go to local and regional charities. Sponsorship opportunities are also available by contacting the Staal Foundation Open office.
