MDPV-Bath Salts Discovered in Police Raid

THUNDER BAY, ON  -----    April 27, 2013   ------  On April 24, 2013 2012 Drug Enforcement Officers assisted by officers with Thunder Bay Police the Guns and Gangs Unit and Community Response Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant on a residence situated in the 100 block of Heron Street Thunder Bay.

Police advise that this is the first known seizure of Bath Salts in the City of Thunder Bay. Bath Salts are a Schedule 1 drug as defined in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. It is a very dangerous street drug and may have contributed to two (2) known deaths locally
 
Search of the residence resulted in the arrest of a 32 year old Hamilton Ontario male. Search of the residence also resulted in the seizure of approximately 73 grams of Marijuana, 18 Oxycodone 5 mg tablets, 4 grams of Psilocybin, 6 mg Hydro morphine and approximately 25 grams of MDPV-Bath Salts. The street value of all drugs seized is approximately $4,355.00. Also seized was approximately $5,685.00 in Canadian currency.


The following person is facing criminal charges;
 
Jareth Giacomo LICO 32 years of age

 •Possession of Psilocybin for the Purpose of Trafficking s. 5(2) CDSA  Magic Mushrooms
 •Possession of Bath Salts for the Purpose of Trafficking s. 5(2) CDSA
 •Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking s. 5(2) CDSA
 •Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking s. 5(2) CDSA
 •Proceeds of Crime s. 354(1)(a) CCC

LICO was held in custody and had a court appearance on April 24, 2013. He was remandedBath Salts into custody and will appear in Thunder Bay court on April 29, 2013. LICO is alleged to have been dealing drugs within a very close proximity to two elementary schools, therefore, meets the Minimum Mandatory Penalties under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
