Des Moines, IA – ---- July 9, 2011 --- Fatigue finally caught up to the Thunder Bay Chill as the team lost 2-0 Saturday night to division rivals, Des Moines Menace. In the final match of a six game, eight day road trip, the Chill were never able to recover after being reduced to ten men in the 7th minute, when Gustavo Oliveira was shown a red card.
Oliveira was sent off after retaliating to a severe challenge, which meant the Chill would be playing defense for the majority of the match. It took the Menace 70 minutes to breakdown the Chill defense, and it was Menace defender Jubril Lawal who broke the deadlock, giving his team a 1-0 lead. Any hopes of a tie were ended in the 83rd minute when the Menace were awarded a penalty shot and John Sosa calmly placed the ball in the back of the net.
The Chill head back to Thunder Bay with a record four wins, one tie, and one loss on after completing their season-long six game road trip. The team will face WSA Winnipeg on Tuesday July 12th, and Wednesday, July 13th, at home at Chapples Park, Thunder Bay. The games will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. and the team will look forward to some home crowd support as they continue to fight for playoff positioning.
