THUNDER BAY, ON ---- July 9, 2014 --- Long time City Councillor and strong community advocate has announced his candidacy as an At Large Councillor for the 2014 to 2018 term of Council. Hebert has served two terms as an at large Councillor and will be seeking a third mandate from the people.
He has long been a community advocate involved in a volunteer as a citizen and a Councillor in many committees and Boards. He has been involved with LU Athletics for 47 years, 11 years as President of the Thunder Bay International Baseball Association which brought the very successful World Junior Baseball to Thunder Bay in 2010 and the event will be back in 2017, 6 years as an Elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and 31 years as a member of the Planning Committee of Forum North, the largest Regional Health and Safety conference in the province.
As a Councillor he sits as a very active member on the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame Board, the Library Board, The Museum Board ,the Heritage Advisory Committee, the Victoriaville Management Board, Fort William Downtown BIA Board, Community Auditorium Board, Youth Suicide Prevention Board, the Performing Arts Tribute Committee, and is on the Community and Cultural Funding Appeals Committee of Council.
He is the current President of the Thunder Bay District Municipal League and a Vice President of NOMA. He has been co-Chair along with Councillor Iain Angus of the region’s Energy Task Force since its inception. That group of dedicated volunteers is working to ensure adequate and reliable power supply to our area to encourage development. This means both generation and transmission assets must be improved or developed.
